A compact way to get your daily shot, the DeLonghi Alicia Electric Moka espresso maker satisfies the dueling needs for convenience and caffeine. Italian in origin and engineering, DeLonghi is well respected for its small appliance innovations, and this unit boasts several, from durable construction to safety features. Because it is outfitted with a cool-touch base, the Alicia goes anywhere you can plug it in. The sturdy aluminum boiler is built for frequent use, and the container is transparent to let you track the brewing progress. The boiler automatically shuts off to prevent overheating and, in the case of inopportune phone calls, keeps your coffee warm for up to 30 minutes. The Alicia also automatically switches off when you remove the coffee-maker from the base. Additional helpful features include an indicator light, a cool-touch handle, and a swiveling base. Measuring 5.12 by 8.27 by 10.63 inches, the Alicia churns out 3 to 6 cups of espresso. The 3-cup adaptor is available separately. --Emily Bedard From the Manufacturer Moka is the Italian Way to Make Espresso Authentic espresso is the heritage of the Italian culture and tradition, and the great Italian tradition of coffee making began with moka. Found in most Italian kitchens for more than half a century, moka produces an inherently aromatic espresso. It is more intense in flavor, and more pure in coffee taste. That is why generations of Italians have sworn by stovetop moka espresso makers. In fact, in Italy every family owns at least two mokas. Used on the stovetop, the heat from the burner boils the water and directs it up through the ground coffee and into the receptacle, producing a perfect espresso every time. Why an Electric Moka Espresso Maker? Although the traditional stovetop moka makes great espresso, people have been searching for a safe, convenient and easy-to-use alternative. The new six-cup machine embodies DeLonghi’s commitment to its Italian heritage and innovative kitchen design. The Electric Moka Espresso Maker is a modern-day, convenience-minded adaptation of a beloved Italian staple. Electric Moka Espresso Maker Features: - 3- to 6-cup espresso capacity
- Transparent Coffee Container lets you easily monitor the entire brewing process. And the durable container is easy-to-clean.
- Filter Adapter allows you to choose 3 or 6 cups of espresso, so you can select the amount of espresso to make depending on the number of people you’re serving.
- Automatic Shut-Off With Keep Warm Function keeps espresso hot for up to 30 minutes. And with automatic safety shut-off, your espresso will never burn or overflow.
- Two-Level Safety System will automatically shut-off the machine when the unit is finished brewing and when the body is lifted from the base.
- Cordless Operation with Detachable Base makes serving convenient and simple. You can bring your espresso right to the table.
- On/Off Switch with Indicator Light Easy-to-use illuminated push-button control lets you know when the unit is in operation.
- Pressurized Safety Valve ensures safe operation.
- Aluminum Boiler is made of durable, high-quality aluminum. Count on getting great espresso for years to come.
How to Make the Perfect Italian Espresso in Just a Few Simple Steps: - Fill the aluminum boiler with water.
- Fill the filter with ground coffee.
- Attach the transparent coffee container to the base.

Great product with easily obtainable spare parts

So I needed something for making moka espresso in my classroom, and this turned out to be the thing. Several reviews mentioned the possibility of breaking the polycarbonate top. I am happy to report that the top, the gasket, and the top filter are all interchangeable with the Bialetti 6 cup stovetop model. So gaskets will be cheap & easy to come by, and if I manage to break my poly top, I can pick up another Bialetti and use the top from that.
Woo hoo!
~~~Update~~~
It's two years later and I am STILL quite happily using my Alicia. I've replaced the gasket a couple of times, but that's it. Excellent little product. |
Bialetti 6-cup top will replace broken plastic top
| When the transparent plastic top breaks (and with constant use, it will) you can simply replace it with a more sturdy top from a Bialetti 6-cup stove-top model like this: Bialetti Moka Express 6-Cup Stovetop Percolator. Don't throw it all away. No need to buy an entire new one. I dislike the build in redundancy of some modern products, so I'm glad to be able to share this tip. |
Great gadget for lovers of stiff stuff!
I was offered an anniversary gift of an espresso machine and given a limit of $200. Let's face it, there aren't a lot of us out there with $600 to $1000 to blow on our morning joe. I had tried the small steam espresso machines, but it always seemed to have a burnt taste to me. And I had a cheapie pump machine at one time, but I fell back asleep waiting for the goods, and it arrived lukewarm, to which I add cream. I already have a monster drip machine for pansy drip coffee drinkers, and it takes up way too much of my counter space. I did my research, came in $140 under budget and found the machine of my dreams!
Alicia is a saucy little vixen full of vim and vigor! My hubby assembles her at night and click, the magic begins at first dawn. In about four minutes I have piping hot full-bodied bold blend. My only caution to would-be Alicia addicts is that the little pitcher really only holds one cup. It may be three espresso cups, but it's only one solid mug's worth. But that mug contains an aromatic brew of go-juice that is just delicious.
I recommend that you place an order, post haste, with the company for a few extra gaskets and another filter basket, just to ensure your morning's moka continues uninterrupted for many years. |
| I love my coffee in the mornings and the Delonghi EMK6 Esclusivo Aicai Electric Moka Espresso Maker makes it perfect every time! I can have my cup of coffee or I can make more when I have guests. Its great! I put the coffee and the water and the smell of fresh coffee lets me know its done. I actually have two and I am considering buying more for gifts. This is an item that every coffee lover should have. I looks so elegant in the kitchen too! |
Better than machines 10 times more expensive.
I am a coffee snob with every piece of brewing and grinding equipment a consumer can have. Seriously. There isn't a brewing method I don't have the machine for. I've used Moka espresso makers before and loved them, but didn't like that they required supervision on the stovetop. If the flame is too hot or too cool it doesn't come out right. The electricity-based Alicia takes out all the guesswork and tweaking.
I used to split time evenly between a Stainless Steel French Press, a Saeco Espresso machine, and a Cuisinart drip coffee maker. It all depended on what I felt like that day. That was before my Alicia was gifted to me. I've had it now for five months and I have not used any other machine since.
It is the Goldilocks of brewing methods. If I want espresso I use a finer grind and less water. If I want something akin to a drip coffee I use course grinds and top off with hot water. If I want a milk-based drink it's good for au laits and lattes if you adjust the grind right- you have to fire up a stovetop of espresso machine for the milk of course -it even makes a wonderful hybrid somewhere between espresso and coffee that only it can produce (a dark strong coffee, but with crema...tears to my eyes). Instant iced coffee. Mild Roasts, Medium Roasts, dark or extra dark. ALL delicious. It is just about idiot proof. I can't remember making a bad cup of coffee with this thing.
I cannot say enough good about it- compact, easy as hell to clean, economical (use less beans, don't need filters), quick, everything you could want in a home brewing machine. In short, if you love coffee: GET ONE.
Now all Delonghi needs to do is make one four times as big for when I have company over. |
I love this!
Great for Latte
| I do not drink espresso shots. But, lattes are great!! This is no gimmick machine which I cannot show-off. But it brews good coffee. Steam rises up through the ground coffee instead of traditional hot water with filter setup. I use the aerolatte to make froth. I have demo'ed it to friends and they love the coffee. If you want to serve a whole party, it will not be easy with this machine. Weekdays we do not have time, but weekends I enjoy 2 cups with wife. |
